What is a Hope Bag?

The purpose of a Hope Bag is to provide community members with something other than cash to give to a panhandler on a corner. Available free from local businesses, a Hope Bag is any portable, leak-proof bag that contains essentials like water, non-perishable food, deodorant, soap, feminine products, shaving tools, mini flashlights, emergency blankets, wet wipes, gloves or socks and a Just One Thing contact sheet.

And what would I do with one?

  • Businesses can host a small basket of Hope Bags for people to pick up.
  • Keep several in your car; when you see a panhandler, you can give them a Hope bag instead of $$$
  • Find a collection bin at a local business and drop in a few of the items mentioned below
  • Join a "Hope Bag Assembly" party - see our calendar for upcoming parties
